Renovatio and OMV Petrom Bring Three Photovoltaic Parks into Commercial Operation, Adding 130 MW of Renewable Energy Capacity in Romania

Three photovoltaic parks developed through the partnership between Renovatio and OMV Petrom are now operational, delivering renewable electricity to Romania’s national grid. With a combined installed capacity of approximately 130 MW, the projects represent an important milestone in expanding the country’s renewable energy infrastructure.

The three photovoltaic parks, located in Țăndărei, Bucovăț and Căzănești, have successfully entered commercial operation, marking the transition from project development to renewable electricity generation.

Developed through a partnership in which Renovatio and OMV Petrom each hold a 50% interest, the projects demonstrate how strategic collaboration and investment in renewable infrastructure can translate into operational energy capacity.

130 MW of New Renewable Energy Capacity

Together, the three photovoltaic parks have a total gross installed capacity of approximately 130 MW, with an estimated annual electricity production of 0.2 TWh (200 GWh).

This production is equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of more than 110,000 households in Romania, highlighting the contribution of the projects to the country’s electricity supply.

By delivering renewable electricity directly to the national grid, the three parks contribute to expanding domestic generation capacity and supporting Romania’s long-term energy transition.

An Investment of Approximately EUR 78 Million

The development and grid connection of the three photovoltaic parks required a total investment of approximately EUR 78 million.

Of this amount, approximately EUR 26 million was provided through grants under Romania’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), supporting investment in new renewable energy infrastructure.

The commissioning of the projects represents a significant step in transforming renewable energy investments into operational assets that generate electricity for the national energy system.

A Partnership Focused on Delivering Renewable Energy Infrastructure

The collaboration between Renovatio and OMV Petrom reflects a shared commitment to expanding renewable electricity generation in Romania.

With equal ownership in the three projects, the partnership brings together complementary capabilities and investment resources to support the development and operation of large-scale renewable energy assets.

The successful commissioning of the photovoltaic parks in Țăndărei, Bucovăț and Căzănești marks another concrete achievement in this collaboration.

Beyond their installed capacity, the projects demonstrate the importance of bringing renewable energy developments through to commercial operation, when infrastructure investments begin delivering electricity to the grid.

Supporting Romania’s Energy Transition

As Romania continues to expand its renewable energy infrastructure, operational photovoltaic capacity plays an important role in diversifying the national electricity generation mix.

The three newly commissioned parks contribute approximately 200 GWh of estimated annual renewable electricity generation, strengthening domestic renewable energy supply.

For Renovatio, this milestone reflects its continued involvement in the development of renewable energy projects and its commitment to supporting the transformation of Romania’s energy sector through tangible infrastructure investments.

From development to operation, the commissioning of these three photovoltaic parks represents measurable progress towards a more sustainable energy future.
