54 schools, high schools, kindergartens, and institutions have hot water and heating from the sun after Renovatio installed photovoltaic panels worth 500,000 euros.

Bucharest, 11 September 2023 – The companies in the Renovatio ecosystem, one of the leading players in the field of solar energy and green technology in Romania, have recently financed a project worth more than half a million euros, which involved the installation of 54 photovoltaic systems on the roofs of several schools, high schools, kindergartens and public and religious institutions in 12 Romanian counties.

More specifically, photovoltaic panels were installed on 15 kindergartens, 18 schools, three high schools, six cultural hostels, five dispensaries, one monastery, one sports hall, and five educational centers and non-governmental organizations.

Thus, Renovatio funded the “Education through Renewable Energy” project run by the Association from Drag and Dor Pentru Comunitate.

“The 54 photovoltaic systems were installed in 12 counties in Romania. For example, 24 systems were installed in Galati county, 6 in Bacau, 5 in Ialomita, 4 in Calarasi, 4 in Constanta, 2 in Satu Mare, 2 in Olt, 2 in Dolj and one each in Giurgiu, Bucharest, Dâmbovița, Vâlcea and Cluj”, said Doru Voicu, Strategy Director of the Renovatio Ecosystem of companies.

“By 7 September 2023, the systems have generated 45 MWh of electricity, according to the Fusion Solar monitoring portal. Note that PV systems do not export surplus to the grid for now, but this will change when they become prosumers. The production capacity has a total output of 340 kW, consisting of 53 systems of 6.15 kW each and one system of 14.35 kW,” said Ionuț Procop, president of the Association of Drag and Dor for the Community.

In the project’s first phase, the association intended to make the beneficiaries aware of the benefits of renewable energy. Further on, in the project’s second phase, the Association from Drag and Dor For Community will run an education campaign about renewable energies in the form of a caravan. Representatives of the association will visit beneficiary communities and inform interested residents about the performance of photovoltaic systems, their impact and immediate benefits.

The 15 kindergartens equipped with photovoltaic panels are located in Huruiești, Dealu Morii, Băneasa, Valea Mărului, Vârlezi, Bucovăț, Băneasa de Giurgiu, Amzacea, Ograda, Drăgușeni, Țepu, Cudalbi, Negrilești, Grivița and Plenița. Further, the 18 schools are from Tătărăști, Bălăbănești, Berești – Meria, Cerțești, Munteni, Nicorești, Chirnogeni, Săcele, Comana, Alexandru Odobescu, Nicolae Bălcescu, Valea Argovei, Gheorghe Lazăr, Poiana, Buciumeni, Tecuci and Satu Mare.

Three high schools in Căzănești, Țăndărei and Onești were also beneficiaries of the project, and the cultural dormitories equipped with solar panels belong to the communities of Helegiu, Gura Văii, Dobrosloveni, Gurbănești, Mărișel, and Berești. Furthermore, five dispensaries in Cavadinești, Corod, Jorăști, Suceveni, and Brăhășești now have solar energy, and so does the Adam Monastery.

At the same time, the sports hall in Caracal, non-governmental and educational organizations, OSPA, Save the Children, ERC Satu Mare and MagiCamp have been receiving energy from the sun since this autumn, as direct beneficiaries of this project.

Renovatio is a pioneer in the renewable energy industry in Romania, developing a complete ecosystem of major renewable projects in the field, with over 18 years of experience in development, EPC, generation, commercialisation, supply and asset management in renewable energy, making it a trusted player in the energy market in Romania and beyond.
The Association from Drag and Dor For Community was founded in 2020 and is led by Ionuț Procop.

The association aims at community development through education projects and investments in infrastructure and construction. The project “Education through Renewable Energy” carried out by this association brings the benefit of knowledge of alternative hot water and heat production methods through directly exploiting renewable resources.
