Renovatio Trading announces tender for 60.96 MWh battery storage system in Toplița

Renovatio Trading announced the launch of the tender procedure for the implementation of a battery energy storage system in Toplița, Harghita County, with a planned capacity of 60.96 MWh.

The project is financed through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, PNRR, Component C6: Energy, sub-measure 3, and supports Romania’s transition toward a more flexible and resilient energy system.

According to the announcement, the objective of the project is the implementation of a battery energy storage system with a capacity of 60.96 MWh. The estimated value of the tender is 136.49 million RON, VAT included, and the procedure is structured as a public acquisition through open tender, awarded based on the most advantageous economic offer.

The deadline for submitting offers was set for 28 February 2025, 16:00.

Battery storage is becoming an essential part of Romania’s energy transition. As renewable energy production grows, the system needs more capacity to balance supply and demand, reduce pressure on the grid and support the integration of clean energy into everyday consumption.

Storage infrastructure helps address one of the key challenges of renewable energy: variability. Solar and wind production depend on natural conditions, while consumption follows different patterns throughout the day. Battery systems can help bridge this gap, making renewable electricity easier to manage and more useful for the national energy system.

Renovatio Trading’s project in Toplița contributes to this direction by supporting grid stability, improving the integration of renewable sources and helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It reflects the practical layer of the energy transition: building the infrastructure that allows clean energy to become more reliable, more flexible and more accessible.

The tender marks an important step in moving the project from financing and planning toward implementation. As Romania continues to develop renewable energy and storage capacity, projects such as this one will play a relevant role in strengthening the country’s energy resilience.
